Photographer Simon Nicholas White is based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Simon challenges our perceptions of the natural environment in a genre of work for which he has created the term ‘Naturesque’.

“Whilst strolling on a beautiful beach in South Harris, one of the Scottish outer Hebridean Islands, I noticed curious patterns etched within the sand below my feet. I climbed a small rock-face nearby to get a birds-eye view of what I had seen. It was at this moment that I felt and saw the beauty of the world in a brand new way – I became a terrestrial cosmonaut for the first time. Click! Since that time I have endeavoured to capture photographically nature’s kaleidoscopic treasures, her enigma and inimitable beauty.

The natural world is without doubt truly the greatest artist of all.

All photographs in this collection were taken exclusively in Scotland and are not digitally manipulated or enhanced in any way. The series began in 1996 and will continue until the end of time.”
